The day ends. The year ends.
Childhood ends at the school board -
And now your temples are silvering.
Years float over the city in succession,
Over where you were once young.
Noon ends. Night ends.
Careless youth goes away.
A common thing. And now, as in the old days,
Vacation ends. Distance ends.
August ends and snowy January.
The calendar on the wall grows thinner again.
A common thing. And, no matter how you twist it,
All paths in the world end.
No matter how you hold on to the thread of time,
Everything ends... Life does not end.
