Venice is the birthplace of many great artists, and Francesco Hayez was no exception. This city, steeped in beauty and history, was the birthplace of one of the main masters of Italian Romanticism.
Although Hayez spent most of his life in Milan, his works retained the sophistication and emotion that Venetian painting was famous for. His “The Kiss” (1859) is one of the most recognizable paintings of the 19th century, embodying the Romantic spirit of the era.
Hayez became famous for his historical canvases and heartfelt portraits. His works are not just about plot, but also about deep feelings, an expressive play of light and shadow, and incredible attention to detail.

The cluster of iridescent oyster shells echoes with the hum of longing along the Abu Dhabi waterfront. The oysters are made from machined aluminum, coated in shimmering paint, and create a soundscape that evokes the ingrained relationship between the Gulf people and their waters. “Homesick honors the pearl diving tradition that has shaped the economic and cultural landscape of the Emirates,” says the artist. Speakers embedded in each pearl emit a soothing five-channel composition that conveys songs of longing, reimagining the traditional chant sung by pearl divers’ wives to wish for a safe return home.
