🖌️🎨 Thomas Francis Dicksee (1819 - 1895) - English portrait, genre and historical painter.
Years active: 1841 - 1895
Direction: Romanticism
Genre: portrait, literary painting
Sphere: painting
Educated at the London Academy of Arts under the guidance of G. Briggs. Exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts from 1841 until his death in 1895.
In addition to portraits, he painted idealized figures and scenes from Shakespeare and other literary works, distinguished in them, as in portraits, by great neatness of execution and expressiveness.
His most famous paintings are Ophelia, Beatrice (from Much Ado About Nothing), Garden Scene (from Romeo and Juliet), Cleopatra, Joan of Arc, Othello and Desdemona, Valentine's Love Letter (from The Two Gentlemen of Verona), Ahab and Jezebel, and Cordelia.
He was the father of the artists Frank, Herbert, and Margaret, whom he taught drawing from an early age.
