🖌️🎨The exciting, elegant paintings of Andrey Remnev (born 1962)
The artist Andrey Remnev draws inspiration from both centuries-old approaches and modern graphic influences.
The unusual palette gives the canvases the regality of Byzantine art and the preciousness of a haute couture dress. The choice of red and pink colors contributes to the modern style of his characters, which he enhances with a rich and mysterious blue color and which takes us back to Giotto, Titian, Yves Klein.
Remnev perfected his style after several visits to Italy. Thanks to the influence of the works of Piero Della Francesca and Benozzo Gozzoli, he decorates the canvases with the ancient secret of combining egg tempera and oil, an unusual technique among new generations of painters. As the artist himself says, the material he uses is definitely classical in nature: “Like the artists of the past, I use natural pigments related to egg yolk.”
In a series of layers of color and images, permeated with organic light and spiritual vision, he combines traditional visual culture and contemporary figurative art.
The artist shares what influenced his work: “My own style developed under the influence of ancient icon painting, 18th-century art, the compositional innovations of the Mir Iskusstva group and constructivism.”
Located in the historic center of Rome, and since 2018 on the charming Connaught Street in London, the Dorothy Circus gallery, directed by Alexandra Mazzanti, introduces us to pop surrealism.
