He is known for his portraits, interiors with figures and marine paintings. Most of them depict women.
Leonard Campbell Taylor was born on 12 December 1874 in Oxford. His father was an organist at Oxford University.
He first studied at the Ruskin School in Oxford, and then at St John Wood School of Art in London and the Royal Academy Schools, beginning in 1905.
Taylor exhibited in London and Paris, working in a careful, traditional manner and ignoring the contemporary art movements around him. Among other things, he painted portraits of wealthy patrons such as the Courtaulds. The artist lived in Suffolk.
He was a member of the Royal Academy who painted in a rather painstaking representational style that was falling out of fashion even as his career was beginning.
No works of his have been found dating from 1935 until his death, so it is unknown whether the artist ever adjusted his style in accordance with changing artistic fashions.
