 🖌️🎨 Jozsef Borsos (1821-1883) was a Hungarian portrait painter and photographer. He was also known for his numerous Biedermeier genre paintings.
Jozsef Borsos completed his studies in Vienna. His portraits of prominent contemporaries and complex genre scenes were very successful.
Having lost money on the stock exchange, he moved from Vienna to Pest in 1861. His Biedermeier paintings: bright, realistic, strong and gentle, with a harmonious composition, made him popular in Pest.
Unable to compete with photography, he opened the photo studio Borsos József and Doctor Albert (Pest / Hungary). During his career as a photographer, he took more than 44,000 pictures.
He died in 1883, being the owner of the restaurant "Szép Juhászné". Paintings by József Borsós are in the Hungarian National Gallery and private collections.
