Christopher Denise lives in Rhode Island with his family.
His first book, a retelling of the Russian folk tale The Fool and the Flying Ship, was hailed as a "stunning debut" by Publishers Weekly.
Since then, Chris has illustrated over twenty children's books, including Earth Hug Day by Ann Marie Pace, Lucy's Love by Betsy Devaney, Firefly Hollow by Alison McGee, The Next Grandpa by Rosemary Wells, Oliver Finds His Way by Phyllis Root, Rabbit by his wife Anika Denise, Midsummer and Baking Day at Grandma's, and several of Brian Jacques's acclaimed Redwall series.
The Owl Knight, published in March 2022, marked his debut as an author-illustrator and was a New York Times bestseller. The book won a 2023 Caldecott Honor, won the Barnes & Noble Children's & YA Book Awards, has sold over 20 foreign licenses, and has been included in numerous industry surveys and best-of lists.
His latest project, Willow and Rabbit by Anita Rowe Schulte, will be released in fall 2023.
His other books have also made the New York Times bestseller list and have been recognized by Bank Street College of Education, Parents Choice Foundation, and the Society of Illustrators Annual Exhibition.
