🖌️🎨 Eduard Charlemont (1848-1906) was an Austrian genre painter. Eduard Charlemont was born in Vienna in 1848.

His father was an artist who specialized in miniature portraits.

Eduard's younger brother Hugo Charlemont (1850 - 1939) was a famous impressionist artist. At the age of fifteen, Charlemont first exhibited his works at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied fine art. At the same age, the artist was hired to teach painting at a girls' gymnasium.

After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, Eduard Charlemont went on a trip to Central Europe and stopped in Paris, where he lived for the next thirty years. In Paris, the artist received first prize at the Paris Salon, the annual exhibition of the French Academy of Fine Arts, several times. Probably the artist's most famous painting is "The Guardian of the Seraglio". In 1899, Charlemont received a gold medal at the World Fair held in Paris.

The artist is also known for his frescoes. He created three murals in the Burgtheater (the Austrian National Theatre in Vienna, one of the most important German-language theatres in the world) with a total length of about 55 meters. Edouard Charlemont died in Vienna in 1906.
